The 2nd International Conference on Experimental and Computational Mechanic in Engineering 2020 (the 2nd ICECME – 2020), held in Banda Aceh, Indonesia on 13 and 14 October 2020 by the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (JTMI), Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Syiah Kuala, Banda Aceh, Indonesia. The 2nd ICECME 2020 is held in conjunction with International Conference on Information Technology, Advanced Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (ICITAMEE) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta.

Although it is the second of ICECME, JTMI Department has previously conducted a series of similar conferences named Computational Mechanics and Numerical Analysis (CMNA). The first Regional Seminar of CMNA was held in 2002 in Banda Aceh. The Seminars were then annually held as the 2nd to 5th one from 2003 to 2006 in Banda Aceh. In 2008 the 6th CMNA become International Conference, jointly organized with the Department of Mechanical and Material Engineering, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. The collaboration continued to the 7th International Conference of CMNA held in Banda Aceh in 2009. More than 200 papers from various institutions and countries have been published in the proceeding of CMNA. Furthermore, the Conference organized by JTMI began to change its name to ICECME which was held in 2019, this followed the development of variations of the topic of discussion during the conference.

Under the theme of the conference “Strengthening Applied Technology Innovation and Sustainable Development in Industry 4.0”, this conference features rich four keynote speeches delivered by Professor Louis Cacetta from Curtin University, Australia, Professor Yoshikazu Nakai from Kobe University, Japan, Professor Chetan Singh Solanki from IIT Bombay, India, Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohd Rizal Alkahari from Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), Malaysia. We also have with us moderator Associate Professor Anupun Terdwongworakul, Ph.D from Kasetsart University, Thailand. The 2nd ICECME 2020 offers a special opportunity to bring together professors, researchers and scholars around the globe, and serves as a platform to deliver innovative research results and latest trends and development in the fields of Computational mechanics, Metallurgy and material science, Energy, Manufacturing processing systems, Industrial and system engineering, Biomechanics, Artificial intelligent, Micro/nano engineering, Micro-electro-mechanical system, Machine learning, Mechatronics, and Engineering design.

All accepted papers in this conference have the opportunities to be published in various reputable publications such as IOP Material Science and Engineering Proceedings, Defect and Diffusion Forum – Scientific.net, Lecture Notes in Mechanical Engineering – Springerlink, among others.

The conference has received more than one hundred and five papers have been accepted to be presented at the conference. The papers come from 20 institutions and 6 countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, India, Thailand, and Taiwan). To all members of the organizing committees, the international scientific committee, the reviewers, and the collaboration partners, we would like to thank all of them for their tremendous efforts to organize this conference successfully. Hopefully, the authors and participant could share their knowledge and experiences in research and industrial application and will come up with a new network and collaboration.
