Assoc. Prof. Dr. Syarifah Nur Aqida Syed Ahmad

Syarifah Nur Aqida completed her doctorate in the area of laser surface processing at Dublin City University (DCU), Ireland in 2011. She is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FKM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP).
Her research interests lie in areas of laser surface modification of various materials including steels, bulk metallic glass, and coatings, wear and surface integrity, thermal stability of tool and die materials, materials science, experimental simulations of manufacturing processes and stress simulations.
She has examined and supervised to completion a number of Ph.D and MSc. thesis since 2012 and actively published more than 60 peer-reviewed journal, conference papers and book chapters in various research field including metal matrix composites, smart materials, x-ray topography, biomedical and biomimetic materials and biodegradable polymer.
She received research grants from European Cooperation in Science and Technology, Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia and UMP. Previously, she was the manager of the Automotive Cluster Industry Centre of Excellence, a government-funded university-industry linkage program.
She successfully coordinates a five-year term nationwide training as well as research worth more than RM4 mil that promotes graduate employability in the engineering sector. She was also part of the faculty management as Head of Diploma program. Due to her achievements, she received the excellent service award and Cendekia Bitara awards from UMP for high impact publications.
Currently, she is the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Automotive and Mechanical Engineering (IJAME), an ESCI and scopus-indexed journal. Other than that, she is an active research fellow of Automotive Engineering Centre, UMP, member of FKM manufacturing research group, an affiliate member of advanced processing technology group at DCU, and member of The Institution of Engineers Malaysia.
